Surf Life Saving Australia played a key role in two presentations awarded at the recent Australian Water Safety Conference 2012 (From Strategy to Action), hosted in Sydney in June.

Over 150 water safety and drowning prevention experts from across Australia, Singapore, Japan and New Zealand attended the conference whichaims to reduce drowning deaths across Australia by 50% by 2020.

As part of the conference, awards were distributed to presentations that have gained industry recognition.

SLSA worked with researchers from the University of New South Wales on The Ripsafe Project - A Holistic Approach To Understanding The Rip Current Hazard which was awarded Best Conference Presentation.

The People’s Choice Award was awarded to Meeting the challenge of preventing drowning deaths on the rocky coast fronted by Dr David Kennedy of The University of Wollongong with the help of a top research team and Surf Life Australia.
