The Gatorade Clash of the Paddles was run over four exciting days at Hamilton Island in the (usually) picturesque Whitsundays, from 12-15 June 2014.
In sometimes challenging conditions, a variety of races were contested by paddlers of both surf and ocean ski’s including a 3km race, 7km race, and a long-distance 25km downwind course from Lindeman Island to Hamilton Island’s Catseye Beach.
New additions to this year’s event were the novelty Dash for Cash Relay and Dash for Cash Eliminator Races.
The Top 11 finishers in the 3km race became captains for an all-in, 500m, Clubbie style, relay race on Friday morning, and with $2,000 up for grabs, thanks to Hamilton Island, everyone got stuck in and battled it out. After a tight start the winning team, captained by Newcastle based Greg Tobin, extended their lead and took the honours – and the cash! The team was comprised of Greg Tobin ©, John Bush, Jeremy Lai and Adam Rowe.
The Dash for Cash Eliminator was reserved for the elite and with another $2,000 on the line the guys were out to win. The starting line included Michael Booth, Jeremy Cotter, Cory Hill, Dean Little, Nathan Myer, Peter Scott and Greg Tobin.
