Coolangatta Gold 2012 Event Information

Coolangatta Gold Ironman Race - ENTRIES NOW CLOSED

When: Sunday October 14, 2012
Where: Gold Coast between Coolangatta and Surfers Paradise

Normal Entries will close on the 31st August 2012 . Late Entry Period 1st-14th September 2012

Important Changes

  • The race will begin at Tweed Heads & Coolangatta and travel north towards Surfers Paradise, before returning to Coolangatta to finish.

  •  It is compulsory for each competitor to have a board paddler (minimum proficient Bronze medallion award holder) with them in the swim leg and they must wear a fluoro/bright coloured shirt/rash vest of their own. The competitor’s board paddler must also visibly wear their competitor’s number and must be tagged by their competitor as they enter the water.

  • It is compulsory for each competitor to wear a fluoro coloured swim cap during the swim leg which will be provided in their competitor pack

  • It is compulsory for all competitors to wear a minimum type 3 PFD (or 50S) of their own whilst completing the ski leg with further specifications and Australian Standards provided in the entry process for their reference.   • All skis and boards will have the competitor’s number placed on them as a sticker to help identify their craft. Stickers will be provided in competitor packs.

  • All competitor briefings are compulsory and each competitor must sign in.

  • On the ski leg of the course there will be buoy gates which will be approximately 4km apart and maximum 350m offshore. It is compulsory for every competitor to pass through every gate.

  • U19 Teams Competitors have been removed from long course and placed on short course

  • Masters 40+ category on long course has been changed to 40-49 category.

  • All general public (Individual open male, 30-39 male & 40-49 male) will compete on the short course unless they have completed in the Coolangatta Gold short or long course in 2011. After confirming they have completed the short or long course in 2011 then they will be able to compete on the long course.

  • Risk Water Safety Officers will be located throughout the course and will report into the SLSA Safety and Emergency Services Co-ordinator regarding surf conditions on a regular basis via risk assessment data. Every competitor MUST listen and adhere to the SLSA Referee/Officials in regards to the course and any changes that may occur on the day due to conditions.

Run        10km        Currumbin to TH&C and back to Coolangatta

Ski          13.1km     Coolangatta to North Burleigh

Run        1.6km       North Burleigh to Burleigh

Swim      2km          Burleigh to North Burleigh (inside of long course swim)

Run        1.6km       North Burleigh to Burleigh

Board    5.1km       Burleigh to Currumbin (south side of Currumbin Rock)

Run        8.6km       Currumbin to Coolangatta 

Race start time

The 2012 Coolangatta Gold will start from Tweed Heads & Coolangatta at 7:00am. A deep water start will be used and further details on individual category start times will be advised via the website

Event Info

When:       Sunday 14th October, race start 8:30am (race briefing at 8:00am)
Where:      Coolangatta- North Kirra- Coolangatta (5km)

Standard Entry
Adult entry = $35 
Child entry (10-18yrs) = $25 

Race categories: 
1. Fast running the entire course 
2. Running most of the way 
3. Jogging slowly or walking 

All competitors will receive a participation certificate and event water bottle.
