Surf Life Saving Australia recently received an interview request from Channel Seven’s Sunday Night program. They are investigating a story relating to Saxon Bird's death at the 2010 Australian Surf Life Saving Championships.
We chose not to participate in the interview. Instead our CEO, Brett Williamson, issued a statement to the program producer, which has been provided below.

Statement from Brett Williamson, Chief Executive Officer of Surf Life Saving Australia for Channel Seven
Surf Life Saving Australia (SLSA) is working diligently and deliberately to action each and every one of the Queensland Coroner’s recommendations delivered on the 2nd August this year.
In addition, SLSA is implementing recommendations made by an Independent Panel commissioned by SLSA after Saxon Bird’s tragic death. Both reports will be posted on SLSA’s website by Monday, 5 September 2011 with regular updates on each action as it happens. [This page can be viewed at www.sls.com.au/inquiries]
Through all of this let’s not forget that we lost a fine young Australian and surf lifesaver and our thoughts and prayers remain with the Bird family.
SLSA has saved over 600,000 lives in the past century, and remains committed to constantly improving the highest possible standards for water safety and event safety for its members, beach goers and the general community.
