IRB Championships

2012 Australian IRB Championships

The Australian IRB Championships provides an opportunity for the best IRB crews from around Australia to compete against each other over a frenetic and action-packed weekend of competition. With a National title and surf life saving club pride on the line, crews put it all on the line at some of Australia's most well-known beaches. This year's event will be held at Ocean Beach on the NSW Central Coast from 20-22 July, 2012.

About the Event

The Inflatable Rescue Boat (IRB) is the work-horse of Australian surf life saving clubs. Since its introduction into surf rescue in the 1970s, it has revolutionized rescue procedures on our beaches, and consequently, has been involved in saving many lives.

The purpose of IRB competition is to improve the skills of our IRB drivers and crews in order to improve safety outcomes on our beaches. IRB crews consist of a driver and a crewperson. The objective is to rescue a ‘patient’ or ‘patients’ from the water in the quickest time.
