Phase out of quad bikes | 18 July 2011
From the start of the 2011/12 lifesaving season, the use of quad bikes is no longer permitted for all SLS operations.
This is in line with the decision made at the July 2008 Board of Lifesaving (BOL) meeting. Information on this decision and the 3 year phase out period was communicated to clubs and services in the 2008 and 2010 National Lifesaving Agendas.
From the start of the 2011/12 lifesaving season only side-by-side all terrain vehicles (ATV) may be used by clubs and services.
Please refer to SLSA Circular 07/2011-12.
Changes to oxygen cylinders
The Australia and New Zealand Industrial Gas Association (ANZIGA) is continuing to roll out changes to the valves and colour of medical oxygen bottles.
1. The Australian Standard (AS2473.3) that determines which valve outlet must be used for medical gas cylinders has recently been amended. Consequently, your gas supplier is required to change the medical oxygen valve outlet on the gas cylinders supplied. This change to medical oxygen cylinder valves only occurs to large medical oxygen cylinders (D, E and G sizes including bundles/packs).
2. The Australian Standard (AS 4484) that defines the labelling and colour coding for gas cylinders has also recently been amended. This amendment requires that medical gas cylinders shall have a white body colour with the colour on the shoulder of the cylinder indicating the type of gas in the cylinder.
All cylinders containing medical oxygen will soon be readily identifiable by their all white shoulder and white body colour
