Rescue stories

Each year our dedicated surf lifesavers perform thousands of rescues on Australian beaches. They risk their own lives to ensure the safety of everyone who visits the beach. Surf lifesavers don't perform rescues for fame or reward; they perform rescues because they are committed to saving lives. The majority of these rescue stories go untold.

2011 International Surf Rescue Challenge

The 2011 International Surf Rescue Challenge will be held in New Zealand from 31 January to 4 February 2011, with teams from the USA, Japan, South Africa, Great Britain joining Australia and New Zealand on the beaches of Mount Maunganui. Led by Shannon Eckstein, Australia will be looking to defend the title they won in 2009. We will be providing full coverage of the event on sls.com.au, so stay tuned for updates.
