13 Surf Lifesavers Recognised in 2021 Queen’s Birthday Honours
Thirteen surf lifesavers were today recognised as part of the Queen’s Birthday Honours announced by the Governor General in Canberra for their services to surf lifesaving.
In this year’s list of recipients there was a noticeable rise in surf lifesaving volunteers who received honours.
Surf Life Saving Australia President, John Baker ESM, on behalf of the wider movement, congratulated those honoured for their outstanding service.
“On behalf of Surf Life Saving Australia, I would like to congratulate Lawrence Bond (OAM), Ken Clark (OAM), Brian Gee (OAM), Janet Jones (OAM, Alan Joyce (OAM), Peter Kilmurray (OAM), Alistair McCooke (OAM), Robert Thompson (OAM), Anthony Waller (OAM), Dinah Boswell (ESM) and Kimberley Gee (ESM) on achieving this thoroughly deserved recognition and thank them for their outstanding service to surf lifesaving,” said Baker.
“I would also like to congratulate SLSA Board Director and SLS WA President Craig Smith-Gander AM and Anne Gardiner AM on their well-deserved Member of the Order of Australia.
“Surf lifesaving is very proud and fortunate to have such quality people involved in our movement and so too the wider Australian community, for the role they have and/or continue to play, in helping to keep Australia’s coastlines safe.
“Our 315 Surf Life Saving Clubs across the country are very much a part of the community and it is the individuals within each club, such as those honoured today, that are the cornerstone of our clubs and community.”
Volunteer surf lifesavers give up more than 1.4 million hours to patrol Australian beaches each year, but more than that, they contribute to local communities across the country through patrolling, training and educating our young people, community awareness, fundraising and so much more.
