A little slice of history unfolded at Coolangatta today with the gold and silver medallists in the U17 beach flags, two of three North Cronulla triplets.
Alex and Leah Rampoldi fought out the final in front of their family, a vocal group of North Cronulla “Chargers” and grandstands full of intrigued onlookers, with Alex getting the better of her sister.
But the story of the Rampoldi girls, all National class gymnasts-turned ‘will o’ the wisp’ flags chasers, doesn’t finish there.
The third sister Emily finishing sixth in the same thrilling final.
And a fourth North Cronulla girl Ashleigh McDonald finished seventh in the final and believe it or not, Ashleigh also shares the same birthday as the triplets, April 27, 2001.
North Cronulla also struck gold in the R and R area, winning the Open Female 5 Person and Under 17 5 Person.
Yesterday the foursome won silver in the U17 beach relay.
Meanwhile in other events Sydney Northern Beaches club Collaroy Ladies won the March Past – a victory over 10 years in the making and they also added the prestigious Curlewis Open 6 Person R and R from Wanda and Coogee, while Wanda won the Open Male 5 Person R and R.
Other R and R winners were Angelsea (Open Age Mixed 5 Person) and Bondi (U19 5 Person).
