Surf Life Saving Australia is delighted with today’s announcement that Western Australia will again play host to one of the world’s largest surf sports events when the Australian Surf Life Saving Championships (‘The Aussies’) returns in 2022.
“We welcome today’s announcement and appreciate the support that the West Australian Government provides for mass participation events,” SLSA President Graham Ford AM said today.
“Western Australia’s beaches provide the perfect amphitheatres for The Aussies for both competitors and spectators alike and we look forward to returning in 2022.”
Sponsored by the State Government, through Tourism WA, The Aussies is an annual event which sees Australia’s 311 surf clubs come together to compete in more than 400 beach and ocean events.
In addition to competitors, thousands more visitors are expected to attend as spectators and support crew.
The Aussies in 2018 saw 8,578 visitors attend in WA at Scarborough Beach, more than 5,000 of which were competitors, and who spent $15.8 million during the event.
