The Aussies is not simply Australia’s largest annual sporting competition. It is a whole lot more. From swimming to skis, from boards to boats, everything we do, every event in which we compete is there for a single purpose, to save lives on the beach.

The 2018 Australian Surf Life Saving Championships will be held at Scarborough Beach, Perth from Saturday 14 April to Sunday 22 April.

Event Locations:

  • All water events will be run at North Kirra Beach
  • Ocean Swim will be run at North Kirra Beach
  • Beach events will be run at Coolangatta Beach – Except Youth Flags and 2km Run, which will be run at North Kirra
  • Surf Boat events will be run at Tugun Beach
  • Life Saving events will be run at Bilinga Beach
  • Board Riding events preferred location North Burleigh or Miami (subject to surf conditions)

When is The Aussies 2017?

  • Youth Championship, March 25 – 26

  • Opens Championship, March 29 – April 2
  • All Lifesaving events will be held from March 27 – April 1
  • All Board Riding events will be held from March 27 – 31.

  • North Kirra Beach, Gold Coast QLD – Water & Beach Events
  • Tugun Beach, Gold Coast QLD – Boat Events
  • Bilinga SLSC, Gold Coast QLD – Lifesaving Events

What time does it start?

Generally competition will start at 8am each day, however please refer to the event timetable for more details and exact start times.

Do I need to attend the briefing?

The Team manager and or a club representative MUST attend the compulsory briefing, because it is where we will update you on surf conditions, safety, important event information and hand out your athlete packs which includes your lycra.

When and where are the briefings?

SLSA will be hosting the following briefings inside the Officials marquee located south of North Kirra SLSC.

When do entries close?

  • Mon, 7 Nov (9:00am AEDT) Early Bird Entries open
  • Fri, 13 Jan (5.00pm AEDT) Early Bird Entries Close
  • Wed, 15 Mar (5:00pm AEDT) Normal Entries Close
  • Sun, 19 Mar (11.59pm AEDT) Late Entries close

How much does it cost to enter into the Aussies?

  • Early Bird: $90
  • Normal: $105
  • Late: $155

How do I pay for my entry?

Clubs will be sent an invoice after each Early Bird/Normal/Late entry closing dates. Clubs MUST pay by one of the following methods by Friday 23 March2016. No other payment methods will be accepted.

  • Credit Card
  • Cheque

Can I get a refund?

Once an invoice has been generated, entry fees are non-refundable

What if I want to change an existing entry?

Changes to already existing entries can occur up until Late Entries close (19 March 2016), via Carnival Manager. After this date, an admin fee of $7 per change to an already existing competitor can occur up until 4:00PM (AEST) the day before the race is scheduled to occur.

Can I enter when I arrive at Aussies?

Late entries may be submitted at the Administration Centre at the Championships provided they are received no later than 4.00pm (AEST) the day before the race is scheduled to occur. The individual or team entries will be accepted as long as declarations of membership compliance with proficiency and patrol hour requirements and endorsements of Club, Branch and State Centres are provided.

However if an entire club does not submit entries before the late entry closing date (19 March 2016), the club needs to request permission to enter by directing a letter to the Competition Committee explaining the exceptional circumstances for late entry.

Do I need to hold any award proficiencies and or complete any patrol requirements?

Each competitor must hold the award relevant to their entry and have completed a proficiency test for the award. The details of these requirements are detailed in SLSA’s Policy 5.4 – Proficiency and Patrol Hour Requirements – Competition Eligibility (available online at Members Portal > Library > Governance > Policy > SLSA > Policy 5.4)

NOTE: U14 age competitors do not need to fulfil patrol hours to be eligible to compete in the Youth Championships but must meet all other requirements of Policy 5.4

I have a shipping container going to Aussies – What do I need to know?

Clubs transporting containers to North Kirra, QLD must contact the SLSA events team ( and provide the following information:

  • Club
  • Container Size
  • Container arrival date
  • Container pickup date
  • Container Organisers Name
  • Container Organisers Phone No
  • Container Organiser Email
  • Transporting company (eg: Toll)
  • Container ID #

In booking container transport, please ensure containers are delivered to North Kirra Beach between: Monday 20 March to Friday 24 March and picked up between: Monday 3 April to Friday 7 April.

Where can I go for further information and entry conditions?

Athletes & Team Managers can download and read the Entry Circular that outlines and explains all the key rules and components for athletes competing at the Aussies. (Available online at Member’s Portal > Library > Bulletins, Circulars & Publications > Circulars > SLSA > 2016-17)

In addition to the Entry Circular a Final Carnival Circular will be developed and sent to all Team managers a minimum 2 weeks before the event.
