The Surf Life Saving Australia (SLSA) Board has appointed the new Chairs for Lifesaving, Sport and Learning and Development.
The advisory Chair roles are two year honorary positions and are responsible for supporting and informing the overall strategic development, growth and management of SLSA’s key operations to assist SLSA in meeting its strategic priorities.
The board appointed Chris Jacobson (TAS) as the Chair of Lifesaving, Andrew Buhk (QLD) as the Chair of Sport and Dr Dean Dudley (NSW) as the Chair of Learning & Development at their recent board meeting on 21 May.
A board Nominations Committee chaired by an independent Director of SLSA, Christine Hopton, was appointed to review applications and conduct in-depth interviews.
“The committee commented on the extremely high calibre of all the candidates” Graham Ford AM, SLSA President said.
“The board is really pleased with the elections and are looking forward to working with the Chairs to develop the current contributions and innovate and progress these areas.”
Chair of Life Saving: Chris Jacobson (TAS)
Chris has been the Lifesaving Officer for Surf Life Saving Tasmania (SLST) for the last 4 years. An active member of Ulverstone SLSC, Chris has a Silver Medallion for Beach Management and Aquatic Rescue and holds both a Cert IV in Training and Assessing and a Cert III in Aquatic Search and Rescue.
In 2012 Chris was awarded SLSA Lifesaver of the Year. He has also been a finalist for both the SLSA Trainer and Volunteer of the year categories.
Chris is a graduate of the SLSA Leadership College.
Chair of Learning & Development: Dr Dean Dudley (NSW)
Dean has a strong background in Education and development which includes a PHD in Education. Dean’s expertise has a focus on leadership and innovation and has a proven ability to drive and enable change.
Dean is an active member of Bulli SLSC where he holds the positions of Deputy President, Nippers age manager (5yrs) and Chief Instructor (12yrs).
For the past four years Dean has held the position as the Director of Education for Surf Life Saving NSW.
Chair of Sport: Andrew Buhk (QLD).
Andrew has a plethora of credentials in both sport and surf lifesaving.
A former Australian athlete representative, Andrew has gone on to be a club level coach with Alexandra Headlands SLSC where he is also a Life Member.
For seven years Andrew was the Lifesaving Services Manager at Surf Life Saving Queensland.
Andrew also has extensive experience as a Surf Sport official including 15 years as referee for the Kelloggs Nutri-Grain Ironman and Ironwoman Series and the current Chief Referee for The Australian Surf Life Saving Championships.
