Representatives from Surf Life Saving Australia participated in the Young Leaders in Emergency Management Forum which took place last weekend at Stanwell Tops.
The forum targeted young leaders between the ages of 18 and 25 from organisations that are part of the Australian Emergency Management Volunteer Forum. There were 10 attendees from surf clubs around Australia present.
The purpose of the event was to engage the participants and spark a collective consideration as to how to best ensure the sustainability of our emergency management volunteering sector. Effective methods of attracting, retaining and engaging younger volunteers were topics brought to the discussion.
As well as having the opportunity to network with their fellow counterparts, participants were also guided through talks by senior executives within the emergency response sector including all levels of Government and agencies.
Joe Keane from Ballina Lighthouse & Lismore SLSC was involved in the facilitation process at the Forum along with Brett Williamson, OAM our CEO who made an appearance on one of the discussion panels.
Overall, the forum was a great success giving the youth leaders greater tools to deal with volunteering and emergency management.
