Wayne Druery Cronulla SLSC, NSW
The 2016/17 season has seen Wayne very busy, averaging 20 hours of volunteer service each week in Surf Sports. He is the Cronulla Senior Vice President, member of the Management Committee and the Convener of the Constitution Committee. Wayne was Carnival Referee at the NSW Surf Life Saving Age Championships in March 2017, he was also Deputy Carnival Referee at the Open and Interbranch Championships and served as a NSW Selector.
Benn Prowse, Gove Peninsula SLSC, NT
Benn is the Vice President of Gove Peninsula and Age Manager for the U9/10’s whereby assisting nippers to continue to be run. He has played an integral part in the rebuilding of Gove Peninsula’s club house, volunteering copious hours to seek grants to assist in the building project. He has been an instrumental asset in the re-establishment of the clubs Boat Crew, and is always encouraging to new club members, nippers and their parents.
John Hamrey, Bilinga SLSC, QLD
John has been an active patrolling member of SLSQ since 2000. He completed 102 volunteer patrol hours and facilitated a number of training initiatives at Bilinga SLSC, including the commencement of a Champion Lifesaving training squad. John officiated at his third World Lifesaving Championships amongst numerous other club, branch and national carnivals, totaling over 850 volunteered hours. He contributed to the refurbishment of the club through obtaining grants to the value of $190,000.
Caroline Kearney, Grange SLSC, SA
Caroline is a humble member who’s potential to exceed in lifesaving is noticed, being selected by SLSSA to attend the National Leadership College in 2016. She is Coach for all members of the club for core activity events such as First Aid, R’n’R, Champion Lifesaver and Champion Patrol. She has implemented a social program for female members aged 15 and upwards to retain their interest in SLS as a sport and community engagement.
Bridget Fasnacht, Kingston Beach SLSC, TAS
Bridget has gained an impressive list of qualifications throughout the state which has led her to be a much admired and respected member. She holds the positions of Club Secretary, Communications Officer and Training Officer at the club, along with Community Educator for SLST volunteer programs and nippers. Her leadership was recognised last season with her appointment as Co-Patrol Captain and winning the Young Citizen of the Year award for Kingborough.
Dawn Walterfang, Bonbeach SLSC, VIC
Dawn is the Junior Coordinator at Bonbeach SLSC and ensures access for local and extended community juniors to lifesaving training and sport, particularly those in the growing CALD community. As a key driver in the partnership with Patterson River Secondary College, Dawn enables them to offer a Year 7 elective Introduction to Lifesaving and a bi-annual Year 9 SRC course as part of recruitment and retention for the club.
Blair Walkington, Geraldton SLSC, WA
Blair has been a very active member over the last 7 years contributing in a variety of ways from building maintenance to patrols to Chairperson of the Geraldton SLSC Strategic Planning Committee. Blair is also the Program Director of SLSWA Youth Camps for 13 to 16-year old members. As a Trainer and Assessor, Blair shows commitment to SLS through volunteering his time and knowledge to further develop the skills of those within the club.
