Surf Life Saving Queensland, together with Broadbeach SLSC, will be hosting the inaugural Future Champions Surf Life Saving Carnival from Saturday 18 to Sunday 19 December 2010 at Broadbeach on the Gold Coast.
Open to competitors in the Under 11 to Under 19 age groups, the event has been introduced to provide emerging athletes from both Australia and around the world with an opportunity to compete in elite-level competition.
Athletes will be tested across a wide range of individual disciplines including: board races, surf swim races, surf ski races (under 17 and 19 only), Ironperson, beach sprint and beach flags, along with modified team events for certain disciplines.
SLSQ hasstructured the event to create an electric atmosphere on the beach, with each day’s competition concluding with a finals package that will ensure a climactic end to proceedings.
Future Champions is the first event of its kind in Australia and further supports SLSQ and SLSA Age Development Programs, to identify and support emerging surf sports athletes. SLSQ is looking to make the event an annual fixture on the Queensland surf sport calendar.
Dolphin Surf Craft and Midcoast Marine have generously stepped forward to encourage our “future champions” by offering great prizes throughout the weekend’s competition for participating athletes and clubs. Medals will be presented to all winners and place-getters throughout the day, with individual event winners also receiving substantial gift vouchers.
Also selected from the weekends finalists will be one female and one male Queensland ‘future champion’ from the Under 13 age group. These two athletes will win the opportunity to train with the SLSQ “Cyclones” State Team throughout January 2011.
Entries via the online system close on Sunday, 5 December, while manual entries close on Monday, 6 December. For further information on this great new event from SLSQ, download the information below or contact SLSQ on (07) 3846 8000 or at www.lifesaving.com.au.
