Reigning Nutri-Grain IronWoman Champion Jordan Mercer has just announced she will not contest her Nutri-Grain Iron title in 2017 due to impending surgery for a navicular fracture in her left foot.
Jordan has been wrestling with this injury since April 2016.
“I have to be positive said Jordan. After an excruciating 8 months my team and I have finally reached a decision to have surgery. Under the care of Orthopedic Surgeon David Young we have been told to allow four months for complete recovery” she said.
Jordan had her most successful competition year in 2016 with Australian Surf Life Saving Championship medals including individual Gold in the Open Women’s Board, one team gold and two silver medals. Jordan defended her Molokai to Oahu world paddle board title in Hawaii for the sixth consecutive year and represented Australia at the World Lifesaving Championships in the Netherlands.
“We wish Jordie all the best in her recovery and look forward to her continued participation in domestic and international Surf Life Saving competition. Jordie has given a great deal to the movement and the sport and we are sure her determination will see her back in training when the time is right” said Greg Meagher, General Manager Capacity & Capability SLSA.
The Nutri-Grain IronMan and IronWomen Finals Series is being held from 24-26 February 2017 at North Cronulla.
