Lifesaver of the Year
Lara Boyle, Whale Beach SLSC, NSW
A highly accomplished member of Whale Beach SLSC, Lara wears many hats; Patrol Vice-Captain, Trainer, Assessor, Mentor, RWC Operator, IRB Driver, and a member of the Whale Beach Management Committee. Over the past season she completed 202.5 patrol hours across three NSW clubs. She is now the second woman on the Sydney Northern Beaches to become a Jet Ski Support Operator and holds the distinction of being the youngest operator on the Branch team. Steve Waite, Mindil Beach SLSC, NT
Steve obtained his Bronze Medallion in 2015, quickly establishing himself as a key member of Mindil Beach SLSC. He became Director of Lifesaving in 2016 and was very committed to club patrols, assisting with water cover for nippers and large community events such as the Beer Can Regatta. Although Steve is new to SLS, he has quickly embraced the movement and activities at a state level, representing his club at the SLSQ Club Development weekend on the Sunshine Coast. Scott Summers, Sunshine Beach SLSC, QLD
Scott was honoured with the Sunshine Coast Branch and Queensland Operations Support Member of the Year Award. As a Facilitator, he has led and coordinated multiple courses to help establish the highest number of active patrolling members and award holders in the club’s history. Scott has successfully sought grants, supporters and sponsors to provide upgraded club equipment and resources to improve patrolling services for both active volunteer members and the local community. Neil Wilson, Moana SLSC, SA
Neil is heavily involved in club patrolling duties and management being Club Captain, Patrol Captain and IRB Captain. He is also the Carnival Safety and Emergency coordinator for all state surf carnivals, sitting on both the State Lifesaving Advisory Committee and State Powercraft Committee. Neil is a key member of the mid coast emergency response group working with club captains and state officers to deliver out of hours call out response in the region. Lloyd Thomas, Bonbeach SLSC, VIC
Lloyd embodies the SLS story of nipper parents who take on further duties to assist their club and grow the movement. His dedication and enthusiasm is infectious to others around him, and he has made a significant contribution to the club, district and state in a few short years. Adam Hoes, Mandurah SLSC, QLD
Adam has been part of the SLS movement for 12 years, spreading his passion across multiple roles such as Director of Surf Lifesaving at Mundurah, Patrol Captain, IRB Captain, Lead First Aid Officer and Trainer and Assessor to name a few. Adam has shown a strong commitment to public safety, particularly through his implementation of a second patrol at Town Beach. Philippa Lohrey, Kingston Beach SLSC, TAS
Philippa is a highly valued and committed member within SLS. Her passion to see the youth thrive in their lifesaving roles is something she should be recognised for. Philippa holds the positions of Lifesaving Manager and Patrol Captain at her club, and has performed over 76 patrolling hours in the past season. She is a member of the Southern Regional Lifesaving Committee and is the State Lifesaving Executive. Philippa also assisted SLST in education and training programs such as the Beach to Bush Program. Lifeguard of the Year
Jai Sheridan, Byron Shire Lifeguard Service, NSW
Jai has been employed since 2014 by the Australian Lifeguard Service (ALS). He has also honed his skills in the UK, spending a summer on the beach . Last season Jai stepped up and took on supervisory responsibilities for the Byron/Ballina area. Throughout the season Jai’s knowledge and skills were put to the test as he participated in many call-outs and administered first-aid treatments. Cassandra Moss, Jan Juc SLSC, VIC
Cassandra is an outstanding role model for members of her club. Cassie stepped up into the role of Deputy Chief Lifeguard last season, over-seeing nine beaches and a pool of over 50 lifeguards. She has also joined LSV’s Advanced Lifesaving Camp which is the premier training medium for aspiring lifeguards, by which she exceeded all expectations in the delivery of this five-day program. Ramon “Max” Pettigrove, Sunshine Coast SLSC, QLD
Max joined the Lifeguard Service as an 18 year old patrolling beaches in the Noosa Region. To date he has completed over 25,000 hours of service. He spends many hours mentoring new staff, setting the benchmark for his peers with his positive attitude, professionalism, presentation and beach presence. He facilitates fitness training and ocean knowledge for all lifeguards and is also one of the first lifeguards in QLD to complete the Remote Pilot Aerial Surveillance course. Liam Clifford, West Beach SLSC, SA
Liam is a young enthusiastic lifeguard who is a great role model for younger members in South Australia. His professionalism and confidence as a 23-year-old goes beyond his years, and he is seen by staff and members as a skilful yet continually striving to improve person. Liam is always willing to put his hand up and assist his supervisors to the best of his capacity. He was a well-deserved winner of SLSSA Lifeguard of the Year.
