Congratulations to this year’s Nutri-Grain IronWoman and IronMan winners, Georgia Miller and Ali Day. In weather more akin to a carwash than a carnival, it was perhaps no surprise that the pair who demonstrated their class to win last year’s Coolangatta Gold, came through to finish first in round six and in so doing, secure the vital points needed to win the overall championship at Wanda beach, NSW.
First time Nutri-Grain IronWoman title winner Georgia Miller defied the scoreboard to beat her BMD Northcliffe clubmate Maddy Dunn by just three points in the overall championship despite missing round five to attend her sister’s wedding.
And six-time Coolangatta Gold winner Ali Day can add a second Nutri-Grain IronMan title to his trophy cabinet having previously won the series in 2014/15.
These results set both Georgia and Ali up for what would be a remarkable Iron trifecta at The Aussies, although neither have tasted success in this event at the national titles before.
Some of the loudest cheers of the day were reserved for “The Professor,” Shannon Eckstein who finished 5th on the day. Shannon, who holds an historic nine Nutri-Grain IronMan career titles, has confirmed his retirement at the end of the season and was taking part in his last Nutri-Grain IronMan event. Fans will have a last chance to see Eckstein at The Aussies next month.
