Silver Salties Hits its Stride at Bondi
With the gradual easing of COVID-19 restrictions, Surf Life Saving Australia is looking forward to seeing community initiatives such as Silver Salties return to clubs around Australia. On Wednesday 1 July, the newest Silver Salties ‘Walk & Talk’ group was launched at Bondi Surf Bathers Life Saving Club, lead by club member Rozanne Green.
Bondi Surf Bathers Life Saving Club President Brent Jackson was part of the launch event and explained that the club is constantly looking for ways to engage club members and the wider community, with Silver Salties being a great way to do this.
“Engaging Nippers and younger people is something the club already does with some success and the opportunity to provide something for older members is really valued by the club,” Brent said.
Club patron and dual English Channel swimmer Cyril Baldock addressed the group, expressing his delight at seeing so many people keen to keep physically active and maintain social connections.
“Keeping physically fit and active is an important part of life, particularly as you get older and equally important is staying connected and meeting new people,” remarked Cyril.
Waverley Council Mayor, Paula Masselos, was a notable attendee at the launch and made mention of her support of Silver Salties and the positive impacts it can bring to older members of the community. She is looking forward to seeing further Silver Salties programs run by the club in the coming months, particularly water based programs.
The Walk & Talk group at Bondi Surf Bathers Life Saving Club runs every Wednesday from 10-10:45am until the end of September. All people are welcome to join the group at any time – for further information, please contact: email@example.com.
