SLSA Statement on Aussies 2020 and COVID-19
SLSA advises that at present the 2020 Australian Open, Masters and Youth Championships to be held on the Gold Coast in April are going ahead as planned. However, SLSA considers the safety and welfare of its members and supporters as paramount and as such will be monitoring the advice provided by State and Federal agencies and will, if necessary, take appropriate action to minimise risk to members and supporters.
The current advice from Queensland Health in relation to events and mass gatherings is that “there is no need to cancel any events or gatherings or take additional precautions to normal practice. People who are unwell should not attend public events.” (source: https://www.health.qld.gov.au/clinical-practice/guidelines-procedures/diseases-infection/diseases/coronavirus/public-info-novel-coronavirus/frequently-asked-questions-novel-coronavirus)
SLSA acknowledges that this advice can change as the situation evolves, and as such will continue to monitor, and act accordingly, in response to statements and policies enacted by both Federal and State Health authorities. Should there be any change to this advice SLSA will communicate this information through its social and web channels.
