Surf Life Saving Australia today announced the appointment of Suzanne Young as the organisation’s first Independent Director.
Suzanne Young has been involved with Surf Life Saving since the early 1990s when she came from the bush to attend university. She is currently the Executive General Manager Group Corporate Services with the Commonwealth Bank of Australia and prior to joining CBA, Suzanne spent fifteen years developing and implementing strategic change within two large corporate organisations (Qantas and Unisys).
Suzanne’s surf life saving career highlights include being named NSW and Australian Surf Life Saver of the Year in 1996, winning the NSW Gold medal Women’s champion lifesaver in 1997 and completing her Bronze, Silver and Gold Medallions.
She has been involved in many roles at Club level including Chief Instructor and Club Captain of North Bondi SLSC and more recently an age manager and Chair of Clovelly Nippers.
Suzanne has enjoyed working with SLSA in the past with a Board and Committee position with Sydney Branch and SLSA’s Development Board, Finance Committee and the President’s Advisory Board. “I am looking forward to continuing my work as a volunteer with Surf Life Saving Australia. SLSA is a wonderful organisation and has been a big part of my life to date. I believe that my surf knowledge combined with my professional career experience will allow me to assist SLSA to continue and advance its vital humanitarian and social goals.”
SLSA President, Graham Ford, agrees. “Suzanne is a great champion for the organisation. Her experience, skills and enthusiasm make her the perfect choice for Independent Director and a great addition to the SLSA Board.”
