The Aussies 2020 Event Timetable Announced
The full event timetable for the Australian Championships 2020 has been officially released with clubs and participants encouraged to register.
The Aussies 2020 will feature 481 events across nine days of intense surf sport action from April 18-26 on the Gold Coast.
Competition dates and times* for Open, Youth, Masters events as well as Board Riding, Lifesaving, Surf Boats and the Ocean Swim races are now available on the Surf Life Saving Australia website.
“Now we have turned the corner into the New Year, the Aussies are only 16 weeks away and preparations from an operational perspective are well underway,” said Surf Life Saving Australia National Sport Manager Wayne Druery.
“We have introduced some exciting new events to the Beach program this season, such as the Mixed Gender Relay and 2 x 1km Relays. We will also see a new age group (75+) compete in the Masters.
“For the first time in history ANZAC Day will coincide with the Australian Championships, and we have prepared the event timetable accordingly. “
“Competition on Saturday April 25 will not begin until 1.30pm with a special ANZAC ceremony planned to take place on the beach prior to competition commencing.”
The week-long festival of surf sports will commence with the Youth competition on Saturday 18 – Sunday 19 April, followed by Masters on Monday 20 – Tuesday 21 April.
Opens events will run from Wednesday to Sunday (April 22-26) with Board Riding, Surf Boats and Lifesaving disciplines to be held over the duration of the competition.
The Aussie Ocean Swim will be held on Sunday 19 April and is a great opportunity for the general public to be a part of the largest surf lifesaving event in the world.
The 2019 Australian Championships, also held on the Gold Coast, saw 6,332 amazing competitors from 220 clubs across the country, with numbers expected to increase for this year’s competition.
