The Aussies 2020 heading back to the Gold Coast
Next year’s Youth competition will be held at North Burleigh Surf Life Saving Club on 18 and 19 April 2020. The Masters and Open competitions will be held at Broadbeach Surf Life Saving Club from 20 to 26 April 2020.
Graham Ford AM, President, Surf Life Saving Australia said “the Gold Coast is a world-class location for surf sports and the huge success of this year’s event means we can look forward to another sensational celebration of surf sports competition across these iconic beaches in 12 month’s time.”
“It will be poignant for our organisation that ANZAC Day coincides with finals Saturday in 2020. With a strong historical association between Surf Life Saving and the ANZAC movement, we are excited about the opportunities presented for us to pay our respects as a national movement while we congregate for this annual event.”
More than 6,500 competitors are expected to travel to the Gold Coast to attend the Championships next year in April.
City of Gold Coast Mayor, Tom Tate said “It’s wonderful news that The Australian Surf Life Saving Championships are returning to the Gold Coast in 2020. This news confirms again that we are way ahead as the home of live sporting events. Of course, it makes sense as surf lifesaving is quintessential Gold Coast.”
Broadbeach Surf Life Saving Club will be hosting the Opens and Masters competition for the second year in a row after winning the right to host the event for the first time in their history in 2019.
The Youth Championships will be hosted by North Burleigh Surf Life Saving Club, which has long developed some of the country’s best young surf sports athletes – and includes Coolangatta Gold, Elite Series, Branch, State & Australian champions within its ranks.
