Vale: Don Burchill OAM
The Surf Life Saving Australia family extends their sincere condolences to the family and friends of Don Burchill OAM, who sadly passed away on Monday 18 May 2020.
Don dedicated 63 years to the movement since joining the Tallebudgera Surf Life Saving Club in 1957.
Between 1960-1988 Don held a variety of roles at Tallebudgera including Club Captain, Treasurer and President; while also heavily involved with the Point Danger Branch.
In 1991 he was appointed Director of Lifesaving at SLSQ and between 1995 to 2000 he acted as the National Lifesaving Director at SLSA. Don also served as SLSQ representative on the National History Committee between 2000 and 2012.
He received Life Membership for the Point Danger Branch in 1980; SLSQ Life Membership in 1979 and SLSA Life Membership in 1993. In 2006 he was awarded an OAM for his services to surf lifesaving.
Later in life, Don and wife Val, moved up to Hervey Bay where they were quickly embraced by the Hervey Bay Surf Life Saving Club.
Throughout his time in Surf Life Saving, he continued to mentor officials, coaches and competitors.
Don will be sadly missed in the Surf Life Saving community. Don is survived by his wife Val, their two children and their many grandchildren.
