Vale – Ken Murray – Life Member #195
The Surf Life Saving Australia family extends its deepest condolences to the family and friends of SLSA Life Member Ken Murray, who passed away peacefully on Saturday 21 August.
Ken gained his Bronze Medallion in 1950 and was a Life Member of Swansea Caves SLSC and Swansea Belmont SLSC as well as a life member of the Hunter SLS Branch and SLS NSW. He received his SLSA Life Membership in 1998/99 and was life member cap number 195.
Ken was a renowned Surf Boat competitor and was one of the most successful competitors since the sports inception. He is widely regarded as one of the most successful boat sweeps in Australia winning a World Championship title, nine Aussie Surf Boat titles as well as slew of state and branch titles as well.
Ken was selected in six Australian Surf Boat team, touring countries such as South Africa and Europe as both a team Captain and Vice-Captain. Ken has also been honoured with an International Lifesaving Federation Citation of Merit and an Australian Sports Medal.
A true testament to his prowess, Ken has also been inducted into the national Surf Life Saving Hall of Fame as well as the ASRL Hall of Fame. He was also inducted into the NSW Sports Hall of Champions and the Hunter Region Sorting Hall of Fame.
Ken will be greatly missed in the Surf Life Saving community and our thoughts and condolences are with Ken’s family and friends during this time.
