It is with much sadness we advise that beloved SLSA and SLSNSW Life Member, Ron Chesher OAM, passed away on Tuesday 16th October at the age of 95.
In the words of Bert Hunt, a fellow life member, Ron was a second world war digger and served his country in New Guinea. He was a staunch community RSL and Rotary member but was always a backbone member of Moruya SLSC. Ron was the first president when the club was reformed after the second world war, a position he held with drive and dignity until the mid-79’s. He was a various times Branch Superintendent and Branch President. He has been honoured with Life Membership at the club as well as the Far South Coast Branch, NSW SLS and SLSA, a feat few achieve, such was the respect he was held at every level of Surf Life Saving. Ron was in his mid-90’s and while he endured some medical trials in the last years of his life, he never complained and at every opportunity he would talk about the surf club with a keen interest to its workings and future.
SLSA pays their respects to Ron’s wife Heather, and children Janelle and Peter. He will be sorely missed.
A funeral service for Ron Chesher will be held at 11am on Friday 26th October at St John’s Anglican Church, Page Street, Moruya.
Life Members of Moruya SLSC are respectfully invited to form a guard of honour at the service.
